Pick'em Scoring - Olympics

Updated this week

Every sport has its particular scoring. For more information on other sports, check out the MISC section on our rules page.

If an athlete does not reach the final medal round of an event (whether due to disqualification, injury, or not qualifying), their projections will grade as normal. Their finishing position will be graded as 1 higher than the total number of athletes in the final. For example: a swimmer swims in the semi-final of the 100m butterfly, but does not qualify for the final. They will be graded with a finishing position of 9 because there are 8 swimmers in the final.

If an athlete reaches the final, but is disqualified during the final or does not finish the final event, their projections will void.

If a member of a relay team is disqualified, the entire team's projections will void.

Winter Olympics

If an athlete starts but does not complete all their runs during an event round (whether due to disqualification, injury, or not qualifying), their projections will grade as normal.

If an athlete does not reach the final medal round of an event (whether due to disqualification, injury, or not qualifying), their projections will grade as normal.

If an athlete reaches the final round, but is disqualified during the final or does not finish the final event, their projections will be void.

Settlements will use official times and results from the International Olympic Committee’s designated governing body for any and all time and score-based events across all disciplines for the Winter Olympics. Official timing and scoring results data are used for both full event markets and individual run markets.

Time-Based Markets - For any individual or aggregate time-based events, time-based markets will be graded using the official individual or aggregate times that are officially scored by the appointed governing body for that specific discipline, unless otherwise specified. For example, “total finishing time” pertains to the aggregate of the specified athlete's 4 unique runs, whereas “total finishing time - Run 1” refers to only the time taken during the athlete's first run.

Score-based Markets - Graded based on the aggregate score for a competitor in a listed competition, including deductions. Six judges will score each run. The highest and lowest scores from the judges' scoring that run will be excluded, and the remaining average of scores will be the official score for that run. The final score for each competitor will be the sum of the 2 highest scores across all their runs.

Alpine Skiing

Settlement will use official times and results from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation. Settlement will use the event’s total aggregate time unless otherwise specified. For example: A market titled “Finishing Position: Men’s Slalom” pertains to event aggregate time, while “Finishing Position: Men’s Slalom Run 1” only applies to the times in that run.

Any instance of a skier failing to officially start or complete a run or medal event, including DSQ, DNF, DNS, or any other reason, will result in the voiding of the skier’s applicable individual finishing position and head-to-head picks. Total medal/gold medal markets will be graded as normal.

Head to Head - graded in favor of the skier with the faster time in the specified run or event. A medal event’s total aggregate time will determine the result of the head-to-head unless a particular run is specified.

Total Medals - graded according to the skiers’ achievements in alpine skiing alone, regardless of their involvement in other olympic sports, such as mountaineering or cross-country skiing. For settlement purposes, winning a Team Combined medal will count as one full medal for each member of the team.

Biathlon

All Biathlon markets are graded using official Olympic results and official International Biathlon Union (IBU) data. Shooting results and intermediate timing are determined using official IBU records. If an event is abandoned, canceled, or restarted, all markets will void unless unequivocally determined.

Shots Missed – defined as a target not cleared during a shooting bout. For individual events, each uncleared target counts as one missed shot. For relay and mixed relay events, targets cleared using spare rounds are graded as hits. Only targets not cleared after all spare rounds are used are counted as missed shots. If a shooting bout is skipped, shortened, or removed, all affected Shots Missed markets will void, unless the outcome has already been unequivocally determined.

Leader After Shoot – graded using official IBU intermediate timing, defined as the athlete with the fastest cumulative time at the exit of the specified shooting stage. If multiple athletes are tied for the lead at the specified stage, all tied athletes are graded as winners. If the specified shooting stage is not completed, markets will void unless unequivocally determined.

Bobsleigh

Settlement will use official times and results from the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation. Official IBSF timing and results data is used for both full race markets and individual run markets, including fastest run markets. Settlement will use the event’s total aggregate time unless otherwise specified. For example: ‘Finishing Position: Women’s Monobob’ will use the event’s total aggregate time/standings, while “Finishing Position: Women’s Monobob Run 1" only applies to the results of that run.

Time-Based Markets - For aggregate events (e.g., Two-man Bobsleigh), time-based markets are graded using the official aggregate time, unless otherwise specified. For example: ‘Total Finishing time’ pertains to the aggregate of the specified athletes 4 unique runs whereas ‘Total Finishing Time - Run 1’ refers to only the time taken during the athletes first run.

Any instance of a Bobsleigh competitor failing to officially start or complete a run or medal event, including DSQ, DNF, DNS, or any other reason, will result in the voiding of the athlete’s applicable individual finishing position and finishing time picks.

Curling

If a Curling match ends due to concession before the completion of the 4th End, projections for this match will void. If a match is conceded after completion of the 4th End, projections will grade normally.

Points - All points credited to the player in the official match count toward this market, whether scored by the individual player or their teammates.

Figure Skating

  • Jumps Attempted - As determined by “Executed Elements” within official judging scorecards

  • Under-Rotated Jumps - A jump ruled under-rotated does not count towards an official triple/quad/quint jump

  • Falls - Point Deduction must occur to constitute a fall

  • Component Scores - Based on official score reported by judging panel prior to any factoring.

Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey

  • Points: counts the total of goals and assists.

  • Shots: counts the number of shots on goal.

  • Time on Ice: the total amount of time a skater played during the game (overtime is NOT included). Time on Ice will be scored as a decimal (.5 indicates 30 seconds). If a player is on the ice for 14 minutes and 14 seconds, he will grade as 14.23. If a player plays 14 minutes and 30 seconds, he will grade as 14.50.

  • Period Markets: Selections referring to specific periods will be resulted only on statistics from the listed period or periods. Entire period must be completed for entries to be valid. Stats accumulated in overtime period(s) do not count towards 3rd period projections.

  • First Goalscorer: Graded on the player to score the first goal. If no goals are scored in regulation or overtime, selections will be graded as a loss.

  • Cumulative projections: Any projection joined by the plus (+) symbol means that that pick is a combination of those stats. With 'Points' (as mentioned above) already being a cumulative projection.

A goalie who does not start will be void.

Players must receive time on ice per the governing body box score for selections to be valid. If a player does not receive any time on the ice, then all selections on that player will be void. Once the player has one second of ice time, all selections are valid. For period specific markets, the player must appear during the listed period.

All selections will be resulted using official statistics from iihf.com

Markets will be resulted using official league statistics at the time of market settlement. These results are deemed final at all times.

Time-Based Markets - For aggregate events (e.g., women’s individual luge), time-based markets are graded using the official aggregate time, unless otherwise specified. For example: ‘Total Finishing time’ pertains to the aggregate of the specified athletes 4 unique runs whereas ‘Total Finishing Time - Run 1’ refers to only the time taken during the athletes first run.

Any instance of a luge competitor failing to officially start or complete a run or medal event, including DSQ, DNF, DNS, or any other reason, will result in the voiding of the athlete’s applicable individual finishing position and finishing time picks.

Speed Skating

All Speed Skating markets are graded using official International Skating Union (ISU) data. Official ISU timing and results data is used for both full-race markets and in-play checkpoint markets, including leader after lap/stage and fastest lap markets.

If a racer appears in the starting gate of a non-final stage, their markets will grade normally, regardless of any disqualification, injury, or incompletion thereafter. If a racer completes a lap in a final medal round, their applicable lap markets will settle as normal. If they are disqualified or injured before completing a lap or laps, applicable markets will void.

Leader After Lap / Stage - If multiple athletes are tied at the specified checkpoint, all tied athletes are graded as winners.

Time-Based Markets - For aggregate events (e.g., long-track 500 m), time-based markets are graded using the official aggregate time, unless otherwise specified.

Short Track - If a race is re-skated, the re-skated race replaces the original race for all grading purposes.
