Ladders - General Rules

Updated this week

General rules

Make 3-5 picks and progressively win more based on how well each pick performs. Win a little on a decent night and a lot on a great night.

Each pick has 3 rungs to hit. All of your picks have to hit a rung to get that payout.

For example, let’s say LeBron points is picked. He has a projection of 15+ at rung 1, 20+ at rung 2, and 25+ at rung 3. He must get at least 15 points to contribute to a win, and if he gets 25 or more and the rest of the picks also get to their third rung projection, you win up to 500x.

Winning and payouts

Champions

The “average prize” shown prior to entry of your Champions Ladders roster is an average based upon past win-rates to help entrants estimate what their share of the Champions prize may be. As with any average or estimate, entrants’ actual experience may vary from the average prize. We may periodically adjust how we calculate the “average prize” to make the estimate more accurate.

Champions Ladders is a feature of Underdog’s Champions contests. Champions Ladder entries earn progressively more Champions points based on the entry fee selected and the number of ladder rungs reached by each selection. A valid Champions Ladder entry containing any selection that fails to reach the first rung will not receive any Champions points. Once all selections have been graded, the entry is placed in a pool against other Champions contest entries. Winning entries and final prize amounts awarded are based on the number of Champions points earned in comparison to the other entries in the pool in which the entry is placed.

Lineup restrictions

All entries must include active picks from at least two different teams. All entries also require 3+ active picks to grade as Win or Loss.

What happens in the event of a voided pick?

If a tied or voided pick makes an entry invalid (see lineup restrictions), the entry will be considered Void, and the fee will be refunded.

If a pick is voided and the entry is still valid, the entry will be graded as a Loss if another pick is lost. If a pick is voided and the entry is still valid where all other picks won, the entry will be graded as a Win but will pay out for the number of active players. For example, a 4-pick Ladders entry with one void would become a 3-pick Ladders entry and if it wins, it would pay as a 3-pick Ladders win. A 3-pick ladder with void(s) will result in a refund.

Can I edit an entry I've already submitted?

No entries may be edited after submission. Entries can be cancelled within a specified, short time after submission.

What happens with postponed/suspended games

Postponed Games

If a game (NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, CBB) is postponed or not started at the original time and the completion of that game occurs after 4:59 AM ET the day following the originally scheduled start time, picks for that game will be graded as void. (For example, if a game was scheduled to start on April 1st at 9pm ET but was postponed and didn’t conclude until April 2 at 5:00am ET or later, the pick will be graded as a void).

For NFL and CFB, if the venue changes or if the game isn't played during the scheduled week, picks will void.

For racing events, including but not limited to NASCAR, F1, USAC, World of Outlaws, and High Limit Racing: if a race is postponed or delayed and does not start or restart within one week of the scheduled time, all picks will void. If a race is shortened but considered official, all picks will grade as normal.

Suspended Games

If a game (NBA, NFL, WNBA, MLB, NHL, CFB, CBB) starts and is suspended and does not resume before 4:59 AM ET the day following the originally scheduled start time - any entry that was unequivocally determined prior to or at the time of suspension will be graded. For example, if you selected higher on Aaron Judge's 1.5 Total Base projection and he hits a double in the first inning and the game is suspended in the second inning, you would win that pick. If you selected lower on that pick, you would lose that pick. Any pick that cannot be determined will void. For example, if you made a pick (whether it be higher or lower) on Spencer Strider's 8.5 strikeouts projection and he has 7 strikeouts at the time of suspension and has yet to be replaced - that pick will void. For Spring Training only, MLB and MLBCOMBOS picks that are unequivocally decided prior to postponement will be graded, all other picks will void.

However, PGA and Golf Pick'em picks impacted by suspended rounds that resume the next day will remain active and be scored upon completion of the round.

For racing events, including but not limited to NASCAR, F1, USAC, World of Outlaws, and High Limit Racing: if a race is postponed or delayed and does not start or restart within one week of the scheduled time, all picks will void. If a race is shortened but considered official, all picks will grade as normal.

If a tennis match enters a suspended state for any reason (weather, darkness, COVID), we will wait until the tournament officials decide on the outcome before paying out or canceling contests. Suspended matches that resume at a later date will remain active and be scored upon completion of the round. Any Tennis Pick'em involving a player from an uncompleted match (DQ, WD, Injury) will be void, and the payout for the entry, including the voided pick, will adjust based on the number of valid picks in the entry. However, partial stats will grade if that part of the match has completed.

Shortened games that are still official will score as usual and be counted toward entries.

Pick'em Rescues

If a player plays in the first half of the game but does not return in the second half for any reason (injury, ejection, etc.), your entry will be refunded, and you'll be given a special that'll appear in your lobby the next day. This only applies if you chose higher on the player's selection. Please note that not all NBA players are eligible for Rescue.

For MLB, hitters must have started the game and exited before logging their third plate appearance to be eligible for rescue. Pitchers are not currently eligible for rescue.

Entries must be valid to be rescued. Rescues will not go into effect if any other selection(s) in your entry are graded as a loss (assuming it is a valid entry). All entries impacted this way will be refunded, but only one special will be available per uniquely impacted player.

Rescue also applies for entries that use Pick'em Flex. For example, if you have a Pick-5 entry where three selections are graded as a win, one selection is graded as a loss and the final selection doesn't return in the 2nd half (for any reason) of their game - your entry will be rescued. Flex entries with all winning entries besides the selection will not be rescued, an additional losing selection (or 2 for entries that are pick 6, 7, or 8) would be needed for the entry to be rescued.

Projections that are rescued for Streaks will automatically be refunded, and the Streak will be settled. Partial game picks will not be eligible for Rescue.

Currently, only entries that consist of NBA, MLB, WNBA, NFL, and CFB picks are eligible for Rescue. NFL Preseason, NBA Preseason, and BASKETBALL (including NBA Summer League) picks are not eligible for Rescue.

For MLB, Hitters must have started the game and exited before logging their third plate appearance to be eligible for Rescue*. Pitchers are not currently eligible for rescue. Spring Training does not apply to Rescues. *Once a player reaches seven (7) Rescues - they will no longer be eligible for Rescue for the rest of the season. A list of ineligible players will be provided that will be updated throughout the season.

NFL Rescues will only be applied to offensive players. Defensive players do not qualify for Rescue. Kickers and Punter do NOT qualify for Rescue.

NBA Rescues will be applied to players at Underdog's discretion. Not every player will qualify for Rescue.

CFB Rescues will only apply to players on Top 25 teams. To determine the Top 25 teams, AP Rankings will be used until the CFP Rankings are released.

Entries are not eligible in states where Pick'em is free to play.

Contest cancellations

Underdog reserves the right to cancel Pick'em Contests, at our sole discretion, without any restrictions. If you have paid an entry fee for a Pick'em Contest and Underdog cancels the Pick'em Contest, we will credit your Underdog account balance with the entry fee amount.

Typically, we would only do so in cases where there were problems with our services, events that impacted sporting outcomes, or questions regarding the contest's integrity. We would also do so if we believe an entry circumvents the rules. Additionally, Underdog reserves the right to void any pick due to a projection error.

Any picks used after the start of a game/event will be graded as a Void.
